Web & Multimedia FAQs
Can someone help me make/maintain/redesign my website?
A number of resources are available to create and maintain your website.

What if I don’t know where to start?
Start by looking at our Planning Communications Projects page, Web Requirements, Web Writing Tips, and Web Tips & Recommendations. These provide information on planning, navigation and functionality, design, imagery, writing, and programming.

How much does a website cost?
Each website requires a cost estimate based on the project requirements. Website costs are affected by many variables: number of pages, complexity of design, how much programming is required to make the site work, and more.

Can I get students workers to help build my site?
The Office of Student Employment can help you find students to work with you to create your site.

Can I get an event or presentation on the web?
The first step is choosing between webcasting your presentation as a live event, providing video-on-demand for your audience, or a combination of the two. Contact Rutgers Academic Video Services for more information.

How does live webcast work?
You need to schedule a video crew to tape your presentation and an organization to provide the streaming services. You will also need a web page to display the presentation. The video producer will need to know the date and location of your event, number of speakers, and whether PowerPoint or other multimedia will be used in the presentation. The live video event can be aired as a RealMedia webcast—your viewers will need RealOne Player to view it, or a Windows Media webcast—your viewers will need Windows Media Player to view it. RealOne Player and Windows Media Player are available for free.

What is video-on-demand?
Video-on-demand is existing video or an archived webcast available for people to watch on the web any time. The original video can be digitized as a RealMedia, Windows Media, QuickTime, or Flash Video file and can be viewed with the appropriate player. Contact Rutgers Academic Video Services for more information.

Can I get help with my PowerPoint presentation?
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching offers a series of classes in PowerPoint for university faculty, staff, and students at all skill levels.
